If you're wondering
if you've found the the right Roy Richards, (there are quite a few
apparently), here are a few clues.
I was born
in St Bartholomew's Hospital, Whitechapel, London, on December 30th
1950, to my mum and dad; Iris and Leslie. I was brought up in Hackney,
in the East-End of London, near Dalston, and just off Kingsland
Rd.I attended De Beauvoir, Junior and Primary schools, and then
graduated to Hackney Downs Grammar School (formerly the Grocers'
Company School). I later studied at Tower Bridge College, City of
London Polytechnic, Chelmsford College of Technology, The Red Lion,
The Nag's Head, etc.
When I left
home, I lived in a flat near Clapton Pond, Hackney, and then moved
to Chadwell Heath, Essex. Since 1979, I've spent most of my life
in the United Arab Emirates, with a short spell in Australia.
Some of you
may know that in March 1999 I became ill, when I was diagnosed with
Lymphoma (a form of cancer). A long period of treatment, culminating
in a stem-cell transplant, has resulted in all my screening tests
being clear. So now we've returned to our old life. The old life
that we had before the devastating news of my illness, turned our
world upside down.
As you can
probably imagine, we're over the moon with the way things have turned
out, and continue to try to live our lives to the fullest extent.
I hope to add
information to this web-site which may be of some help to others
in my position. In the meantime, I would be glad to hear from anyone
who's life has been affected by Lymphoma, and would like to communicate
with me by e-mail.
